Otagai Designs is a sole proprietorship offering machining and small batch manufacturing capabilities located in Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada. Current machinery includes a VSS TaigTurn 2000AB-DSLS-5C (gang style CNC lathe), VSS MicroMill DSLS 3000AB (4 axis CNC mill), a Nomad 883 Pro (3 axis CNC mill), and a Micro Lathe II (small manual lathe). Otagai Designs focuses on producing smaller sized parts (generally a few cubic inches) at lower scale quantities (usually fewer than 150 pieces per order) mainly in non-ferrous materials including some plastics. Otagai Designs also manufactures and assists with the design of prototypes and single piece orders.
Griffin Lindquist is the owner and operator of Otagai Designs located in Courtenay, British Columbia. Griffin has always had a deep interest in designing and building in the physical world. After graduating from first year carpentry at North Island College, Griffin was hired to work on a house renovation which led to a job designing and making custom furniture. While furniture building, Griffin took up machining as a hobby to satisfy his desire to create small precision parts of various materials. Wanting more control over the creative and manufacturing processes, Griffin decided to launch his own business machining parts using the skills he had developed from his trades experience. Driven by his fascination with industrial design, Griffin continues to expand his skills while designing and producing products for customers from various industries as well as pursuing personal designs.
Paige Whitehead, Founder of Nyoka Design Labs
I came to Griffin with an idea and 3D printed prototype. He quickly altered the design to work better for metal machining, worked with me to create less material loss for both a conservation and sustainability goal, and we have continued to improve and iterate on the original function and design of the piece ever since! It's so great to work with someone who goes beyond doing what I asked for, and who actually brings their expertise and opinion to the table, understands the design, and puts in effort to make everything better.
